Riftbound caches1/2/2024 It had been a shock to discover that not only had she lost her powers but that she'd gained an eerily similar power to that her first real enemy possessed. Fire blossomed out from her, charring the smashed villain even as she kept an ear out to ensure nobody got too close. With a roar, she smashed into it, her fist crushing the surprisingly soft metallic body of the enemy. Energy coursed through her, and as she spotted the first so-called villain, that energy turned into power. Taylor let out a breath she had been holding, and at last, released the hold she had on her power as she erupted forward. "What are you waiting for!? Real battles don't have countdowns! Go!" The teacher, Present-something, shouted, causing everyone to scramble forwards. "Go! Go! Go!" The speakers suddenly blared, stunning everyone for a second. There were some standouts, of course, but Taylor wasn't there to ogle the competition. Around her, dozens of fellow hopefuls lingered, either chatting or fidgeting nervously. Taylor waited amongst the crowd, her nails digging deep into her arms as she felt the inevitable battle come closer and closer. Thankfully, that was the moment the teacher decided to speak up. Ibara's look of concern at that was appreciated, if not unnecessary. Yes." Taylor agreed even as she watched the small cuts her nails had carved into her arms close up. I hope you'll find success, and if the Lord wills it, that we may end up in class together." Ibara spoke up, tearing Taylor away from her brief moment of reminiscence. Calling her a mommy's girl ever since then would have been akin to calling Jack Slash mildly unpleasant. She had not been the easiest of children to deal with, she knew that, but once she finally realized that she'd truly received a second chance, one where she could do things differently, and where she could avoid the same mistakes. Nonetheless, after receiving the good old double-tap to the back of the head, Taylor had woken up with a body far too small, in a world oh-so foreign and yet so painfully similar, to parents that were eerily similar to her old ones. I was born in the U.S.A, but my parents moved here when I was little." Taylor explained even as she once again pondered over the mysteries of her second chance.įor as much bullshit as Contessa was, Taylor highly doubted she was capable of reincarnating people. I assume you are American? Your accent sounds a bit off." The other girl, Ibara, asked curiously. Besides, the waiting is really starting to get to me." She explained. Taylor barked out a small laugh, unconsciously rubbing her arms once more as she gave up the task of scouting the competition, and instead focused back on her seatmate. "Are you nervous about the exam?" She asked Taylor, her voice calm yet gentle. Taylor smiled slightly in response, although it may have come off a bit too much like a grimace if the raised eyebrow on the vine-girl's face meant anything. "Thank you." The other girl gratefully said. She shrugged slightly before scooting over a bit, allowing the other girl to sit down. A girl with vines for hair stared back at her, a placid smile on her face. May I sit here?" Someone asked, causing Taylor to tilt her head to stare at the speaker. If nothing else, humanity was as resilient as cockroaches, and she knew first-hand how tough the little buggers were. The fact that 80% of this world's population had parahuman abilities, or quirks as they called it, and had not destroyed itself was both surprising and also sort of not. With a sigh, she shoved her hands in her pockets, instead focusing her attention on the fellow student-hopefuls around her, watching as they all streamed in. Thankfully, Taylor was not a weak-willed woman. The physical pain she could deal with, but the constant mental pressure, the building desire to unleash her power in a storm of fire and scales. not hurt, necessarily, but perhaps it was worse. She'd been bottling up her power for almost a month now, preparing for this exam. She rubbed her exposed arms slightly, nails scratching at her skin hard enough to almost draw blood. Taylor twitched slightly, the burning-hot feeling constantly running through her body feeling almost unbearable as she waited alongside her fellow contestants in the auditorium.
